My husband’s grandfather Theron was a professional magician in the 1920s and 1930s.  He eventually gave it up for love (aka, fear of losing his wife).  But even in retirement, he stayed in touch with his friends from the old days, such as Melvin “Human Blockhead” Burkhardt, pictured above.  As a young boy, my husband was terrified of this (actually very sweet) guy… really, can you blame him?
